At Kuwano Shrine, four deities have been enshrined since ancient times, including the sacred White Snake, a divine messenger. Among these deities is Ebisu-sama, one of the Seven Lucky Gods, who has been deeply revered for centuries.
Affectionately known as “Ebi-ssan” by the locals, Ebisu-sama is widely worshipped as the deity of business prosperity, good fortune, and happiness.
We are delighted to announce that we have recently enshrined a beautiful statue of Ebisu-sama at our temizuya (purification pavilion).
At this temizuya, visitors can also experience the traditional ritual of “Zeni-arai” — cleansing your money with sacred water.
It is believed that washing your coins or bills purifies them, and with Ebisu-sama’s blessings, invites prosperity, wealth, and good fortune into your life.
From now on, Ebi-ssan of Kuwano will warmly welcome you at the temizuya with a gentle smile.
We invite you to gaze upon his serene expression, calm your heart, and enjoy a peaceful and uplifting visit to our shrine.

How to Experience Zeni-arai (Money Cleansing Ritual)
- Prepare your coins or bills
Bring some coins or bills with you to the temizuya.
These will be gently cleansed during the ritual. - Cleanse your hands first
Using the hishaku (bamboo ladle), rinse your left hand, then your right hand, as a symbolic purification before starting. - Wash your money
Hold your coins or bills carefully and pour the sacred water over them.
Some visitors also gently dip them into the flowing water. - Offer a prayer to Ebisu-sama
After cleansing your money, take a moment to pray for prosperity, happiness, and good fortune at Ebisu-sama’s statue. - Use your cleansed money wisely
Tradition says that using the cleansed money for something meaningful — such as offerings, wishes, or new ventures — will invite greater blessings into your life.
May the blessings of Ebisu-sama, the sacred White Snake, and the other deities of Kuwano Shrine bring peace, prosperity, and happiness to all who visit.
